When you hover over the area, you will see the add icon and the add cover buttons.

Indeed, but this is a lot of space wasted just for those two invisible-until-hovered buttons.
It get event worse with a document icon :

It would be better, and more coherent with the mobile version to have something like this:

(less margin on left and on top, icon at the left of the title, commands below Icon+Title group)
